Ty Broady, a 2011 graduate of Muhlenberg County High School, signed a baseball scholarship Friday with St. Catharine College. Broady spent the last two years playing at Rend Lake College in Ina, Illinois.
“Ty is a good player who has been playing in a very good league,” said SC assistant coach Terry Davis. “He has played third base but is a versatile player who can move to other positions.”
Broady batted .320 last season at Rend Lake as the Warriors compiled a 37-18 record. The former Mustang had seven doubles and was second on the team in RBI’s with 31. He struck out just 15 times in over 150 plate appearances.
“He is a good contact hitter and a hardnosed, scrappy player,” said St. Catharine head coach Luther Bramblett. “He will fit in our system very well.”
Broady is playing this summer for the Tradewater Pirates where he is batting .526. It is that connection that brought him to St. Catharine.
“My summer coach (Steve Fowler) knows Coach Davis so that is how I came to talk about coming to St. Catharine,” explained Broady who will pursue a major in Education. “I’m looking forward to playing here.”
St. Catharine, located two miles from Springfield in Central Kentucky plays in the Mid-South Conference. The Patriots compiled a 37-21 record last season. That marked the 11th consecutive season that the Patriots have won 30-plus games under Bramblett who has been at the helm of the program for 12 seasons where he has a career record of 431-196.
