Donnie Tyndall has been at the highest level of college basketball when he was on the staff of a LSU team that reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. He has reveled in a NCAA victory as head coach at his alma mater, Morehead State University, two years ago.
But Tyndall claims that his most memorable experience still is the one season that he spent as head coach at St. Catharine College. “I can honestly say that my year at St. Catharine is as good a year as I’ve had in coaching,” said Tyndall who will be in his fifth season at Morehead. “I still have many close friends there including Bill Huston (St. Catharine College President) and words can’t describe how proud I am of J.T. Burton (current St. Catharine head coach).”
Tyndall will get to put into words his thoughts on Burton, who was a guard on the St. Catharine team that Tyndall took to the Junior College National Tournament in 1997, when he visits Wednesday as the guest speaker at the Patriots’ Tip-Off Banquet.
The banquet, a steak dinner, will start at 7:00 at Mordecai’s Restaurant. The cost is $25 per person.
“We are excited to have Coach Tyndall here for this event,” said Burton. “He is regarded as one of the best young coaches in college basketball today. We are looking forward to a good crowd and a fun evening.”
