The St. Catharine Volleyball Patriots (9-9, 3-4 MSC) hit the road to Ohio once more Tuesday to face the Shawnee State Bears (9-5, 3-3 MSC).

After defeating one half of the Mid-South Ohio duo (Rio Grande), the Patriots looked to capitalize on their new gained momentum to take down the other piece of the Ohio puzzle. After winning sets one and two (25-22 & 25-23), the Patriots appeared to have control of the match. However, much to their dismay the Bears were able to gain momentum in game three, winning 25-17. Game four proved to be a battle until the end; with the Patriots keeping within striking distance the Bears were able to pull away 25-23, forcing a fifth set. Unfortunately for the Patriots the momentum gained by the Bears in set three proved to be enough to propel the Bears past St. Catharine in the fifth set 15-11, to win 3-2.

Not all was lost for the Patriots; with 42 assists Abbey Sorrels (Elizabethtown, Ky.) set a game high, allowing for the Patriot strikers to be lethal all night. That strike was led by the duo of Allie Southard (Louisville, Ky.) and Shauna Stone (Bardstown, Ky.); with a combined 29 kills Southard and Stone kept the Patriots close through the entire match. Defensively the Patriots were led by rising star Jodie Klein (Louisville, Ky.) with her 23 digs. However, she was not alone in the back row, as Rebecca Just contributed 15 digs to the effort.

The Patriots will hit the court once more October 1 at 7 PM when the Rio Grande Red Storm roll into Lourdes Hall.
