Cumberlands’ Sam Sheen opened the scoring 13 minutes into the game with a goal from 10 yards out off an assist from Alex Marr. Less than two minutes later Harry Mason made the score 2-0 when he found the net after a Bulldog shot went off SC goalkeeper CJ Powell. The 2-0 lead held up until Jessop’s goal. That score came when the freshman from Lincolnshire, England corralled an Ashley Woods’ shot that bounced off the post and drilled a goal from point blank range. But Mason scored his second goal of the game, a breakaway from an Elliot Goodwin assist, to make the score 3-1 with seven minutes remaining. “I thought we played well and had our chances,” said Patriot coach Tim Wolz whose team fell to 2-8 overall and 0-4 in the Mid-South conference. Cumberland improved to 4-1-1 and 3-1 in conference play.
The Patriots travel to Lindsey Wilson to take on the top ranked Blue Raiders on Tuesday in a MSC battle. They return home Friday for a 4:00 contest against conference rival Georgetown College.
