The St. Catharine Patriots continued their Mid-South Conference trek this week as soccer and volleyball took center stage.
The week kicked off on a high note Tuesday night in Lourdes Hall when the Volleyball Patriots defeated the University of Rio Grande 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 26-24). The Patriots were led statistically by junior hitter Shauna Stone (Bardstown, Ky.) and her nine kills and two blocks. Along with Shauna came the assistance of Allie Southard (Louisville, Ky.) and Casey Stone (Princeton, Ky.) giving the trio five total blocks to keep the Red Storm off the board.
Tuesday remained busy as both soccer programs made the trip to Columbia, Kentucky to face the nationally ranked Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson College. The women led things off, but were unable to overcome the high octane Blue Raider offense, resulting in their second conference loss of the season. However, the Patriots shined with the effort of keeper Lindsey Vinson (Dawsonville, Ga.) and her five saves. The Patriot men followed, but were also unable to overcome the scoring of Lindsey Wilson. Even with the 12 save effort from keeper CJ Powell (Louisville, Ky.), a season high, the Patriots defense could not slow down the offensive onslaught from the Blue Raiders.
The Patriots will see more action beginning today as the men’s and women’s soccer team kick off against Georgetown at the Barber Soccer Complex at 2 PM. The volleyball team will head to the University of the Cumberland’s for a conference match at 7 PM. Tennis will make its way to Tennessee Wesleyan for a tri-match between themselves, Tennessee Wesleyan, and Dalton State. The reserve men’s soccer team will defend the Barber Soccer Complex Saturday night at 7 PM as they square off against Bellarmine Club Soccer. Wrapping things up for the Patriots will be the cross country team as they head to the Greater Louisville Classic and compete against multiple opponents.
