The St. Catharine College Women's Soccer team split the first two games of a three game stretch on the road this week.
First, the Patriots traveled to Grayson, Kentucky to take on the Knights of Kentucky Christian University. The Patriots handed the Knights a 7-1 defeat behind a hat-trick by Sophomore Macy Higdon. Higdon also dished out an assist on one of Courtney Hagedorn 's two goals. Mariah House, Paige Long, and Samantha Osborn each added a goal while Chelsey Landrum and Ciara Carr chipped in with two assists apiece. The Patriots out-shot the Knights 19-1 for the match.
The second road game took the Patriots to Bluefield, West Virginia to take on the Rams of Bluefield College. Controversy would be the theme of the day as Bluefield earned a corner kick in the 10th minute. Patriot Goalkeeper Lindsey Vinson fielded the cross from the corner and moved forward in the box. The whistle blew and the referees ruled that Bluefield had scored a goal. Vinson received a Caution for protesting the call. Play was restarted from the center of the field with a 1-0 lead for Bluefield. Less than two minutes later a cross from Pip Pattison of the Rams would deflect off fellow Ram Adriana Moreno's back and into the Patriot goal for 2-0 lead. The match grew more contentious as the referees handed out two more Cautions to Patriot players and one to a Rams player. The two first half goals would be all the scoring Bluefield would need as the Patriots were unable to score despite bombarding the Bluefield goal with 16 shots in the second half while allowing only 5. The Patriots out-shot the Rams 25-9 for the match.
The split leaves the Patriots at 9-4 overall and 3-3 in the Mid-South Conference. They will be in action again on Wednesday, October 16 at Rio Grande and then come home for Senior Day on Saturday, October 19 against St. Mary of the Woods College.
