The Patriot Women's Soccer team concluded a three game road stretch with a win at University of Rio Grande.
In a hard fought match with Mid-South Conference implications, the Patriots pulled out a big win despite falling behind in the second half. Rio Grande's Kasey Crow pounced on a loose ball and scored to put the Red Storm up 1-0 in the 55th minute.
St. Catharine fought back and evened it up ten minutes later when Macy Higdon scored on a rebound off the Rio Grande goalkeeper. With the score 1-1 and the Red Storm pressing, Patriot Goalkeeper Lindsey Vinson punched out a dangerous cross from Rio. After the punch, a Red Storm forward collided with her while trying to head the ball. Both players were knocked to the ground and play was stopped for 5 minutes while trainers attended to the players. Vinson would be okay and continued in the match. The Rio Grande player was able to walk off the field and was substituted.
Play resumed and the match continued at a furious pace. In the 76th minute Macy Higdon slotted a through ball that Paige Long chipped over the onrushing Red Storm 'keeper for the game winner.
The 2-1 victory gives the Patriots a 10-4 record (4-3 in the MSC). The team will be in action at home on Saturday at 2pm against St. Mary of the Woods College. The Patriots will honor the 2013-14 Seniors at the game.
