In swimming action the Nautical Patriots took to the water at Union College against the University of the Cumberland’s and the Bulldogs of Union.
With only two active swimmers the Patriots showed their strength, taking home two third place finishes, two fourth place finishes, one fifth, and one sixth place finish. In the third event of the day Martha Raley (Lebanon, Ky.) knotted a fourth place finish with a 13:32.31 in the 1000 freestyle, and followed up with a spectacular effort in the 200 freestyle scoring a 2:26.37 just seconds behind fourth and fifth place. Hannah Spaulding (Springfield, Ky.) kept her goal of a national tournament bid alive when she finished just four seconds from the time cut off in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:39.71. In addition, Spaulding improved 13 seconds in the 200 yard butterfly with a 2:32.72 and nailed down a 2:09.08 in the 200 freestyle. Finishing the day for the Patriots, Martha Raley struck once more with a 6:39.16 in the 500 freestyle. “Our team is improving every single day” said Head Coach Lindsey Pfoff. “By the end of the season we will be dangerous.”
The Patriots will head to Asbury University November 1 to take on the Eagles, looking to chase down their national tournamen bid.
