The Volleyball Patriots (15-10, 9-5 MSC) hit the road to Georgetown College (23-7, 12-2 MSC) Monday night riding a six game winning streak.
After blanking their last six opponents 3-0, the St. Catharine Patriots seemed to be peaking at just the right time. With three of their next four opponents being ranked in the top 25 nationally, the Patriots knew that they needed to play flawless volleyball in order to achieve their goal of a top three conference finish. Georgetown College came into Monday night’s contest after falling to the University of the Cumberland’s, a team that the Patriots had shut out 3-0 in their last home contest. However, the Tigers did not show any layover from the loss as they got out of the gate early, winning a tight set one 25-21. With set two going in much of the same direction as the first, the Patriots matching the Tigers point for point it seemed that the team with the last serve would steal the night. Down two sets to zero the Patriot net minders stormed back from a 22-17 deficit to take the third 25-22. However, the Patriots just did not have enough gas to get over the hill, dropping set four 25-16.
Statistically the Patriots were led by Rebecca Just (Louisville, Ky.), with yet another double-double (12 kills and 14 digs). Defensively Jodie Klein (Louisville, Ky.) and Randa Murphy (Greensburg, Ky.) combined for 23 digs. Abbey Sorrells (Elizabethtown, Ky.) led the Patriots in assists with 32 while contributing 11 digs as well.
The Patriots will travel to #11 Lindsey Wilson College (15-10, 9-5 MSC) Wednesday, hoping to gain ground in the conference standings.
