Team Purple scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning and held on for a Fall World Series game one win, 4-3 against Team Gold. Trenton Claunch (Burgin, KY) picked up the win, tossing 4.1 innings of shutout ball.
For Team Purple, Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) led off the first with a HBP and advanced to third on a wild pickoff throw. Tyler Devine (Harrodsburg, KY) knocked him home with a sac fly to center. Ty Broady (Greenville, KY) doubled home Nick Rosso (Santa Barbara, CA) who singled to start the 7th. Rosso scored again in the top of the 9th on a Josh Whitmer (Taylorsville, KY) sac fly.
Team Purple was led by Nick Rosso, who went 2-3 with 2 runs scored. Josh Whitmer was 1-2 with a RBI, Tyler Devin went 1-3 with a RBI and Ty Broady went 1-4 with a RBI double. Team Purple had 7 hits. Team Gold was led by Drew Kissel, who went 3-4 with a double and a run. Dominique Guervara went 1-3 with 2 RBI's. Team Gold had 6 base knocks.
Team Gold dented the scoreboard in the 8th when Marc Mason (Tehama, CA) grounded into a bases loaded double play. The Gold Squad rallied in the bottom of the 9th, when Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, IN) doubled, Adrian Garcia (Anaheim, CA) singled and Dominique Guervara (Oxnard, CA) singled them both home.
Andrew Nelson (Eureke, CA) started for Team Purple and left with an injury after 2.2 shutout innings. Steven Borkowski (San Diego, CA) tossed a strong 6.2 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits.
The series continues tomorrow with game two starting at 12:45. The if necessary game will follow. The losing team will perfom a talent show for the student body at a date and time to be determined.
