Entering their last weekend of conference play the Volleyball Patriots looked to solidify their standing in the Mid-South Conference.

Going into the weekend the Patriots were aware that solidifying a fourth place finish in the final regular season standings was in their hands; all that was needed was at least one win against either the University of Pikeville or Bluefield College. With that in mind the motivated squad took to the road to battle the Bears of Pikeville in their first of two matches on the road. After dropping the first set to the Bears 25-27, the Patriots rebounded quickly, taking set number two 25-15. Set number three proved that the Bears were not going away quietly and that the Patriots would have to be up to the task. Trading blow after blow the Patriots were finally able to pull away in the final points to seal a victory in set three 25-23. Leading 2-1 the Patriots didn’t waste any time in set four, as they cruised to a 25-11 victory.

The Patriots were led to victory with three players in double digits for kills; Allie Southard (Louisville, Ky.), Shauna Stone (Bardstown, Ky.), and Erin Cottrell (Somerset, Ky.). Defensively, the Patriots were led by Abbey Sorrells (Elizabethtown, Ky.), Lauren Bowling (Florence, Ky.), and Jodie Klein (Louisville, Ky.) all with 11 digs. With the win over Pikeville the Patriots sealed their fate in the conference seeding with a school high fourth place finish.

On the second day of the road trip the Patriots looked to add an exclamation point to their fourth place finish in the conference. Compiling road trip high .342 attack percentage, the Patriots were able to defeat the Bluefield Rams 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-20). For the Patriots, Allie Southard recorded yet another double digit kill effort with 12, giving her 22 on the weekend. Defensively, Randa Murphy (Greensburg, Ky.) made her return to the floor count as she racked up 12 digs, propelling the Patriots to victory.

The Patriots will celebrate Senior Night Tuesday, November 12th at 7 PM against Kentucky State University in Lourdes Hall. In addition, the Patriots will begin the tournament trek Friday, November 15th at 2 PM, when they meet the Shawnee State Bears (17-14, 9-9 MSC) at the Mid-American Sports Center in Louisville, Ky.
