BAT PATS VOTED 5TH IN PRE-SEASON POLL

After capturing the 2013 Mid-South Conference regular season baseball title, Cumberland (Tenn.) is the overwhelming favorite to repeat in 2014, according to the MSC Preseason Coaches' Poll released today by conference officials.

Cumberland received 80 voting points from the conference coaches, including eight of the 10 first-place votes. Coaches could not vote for their own teams. The Bulldogs won the Mid-South regular season last season with a 19-2 conference record. The Bulldogs finished the 2013 season with a 41-19-1 record. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) is projected to finish second in the regular season with 69 voting points and one first-place vote. The reigning MSC Tournament champions ended 2013 with a 45-19 overall record including 16-7 in conference play.

Georgetown (Ky.) is third in the preseason balloting with 67 voting points. The Tigers ended 2013 with a 36-19 record and 18-6 in the Mid-South. Campbellsville (Ky.) (37-20, 11-10 in the MSC last season) is predicted to finish fourth with 59 voting points and the last first-place vote.

St. Catharine (Ky.) (37-21, 10-11) is fifth in the poll with 46 voting points followed by Cumberlands (Ky.) (33-20, 10-11) and Shawnee State (Ohio) (29-28, 9-15) with 34 and 31 voting points respectively. Rio Grande (Ohio) (36-20, 12-11) is projected eighth in the preseason poll with 26 voting points and Bluefield (Va.) (17-27, 5-19) is ninth with 22 voting points. Pikeville (Ky.) (18-26-1, 6-15) completes the poll with 16 voting points.

The 2014 MSC baseball season begins in late January with conference play beginning Feb. 28.
