The Volleyball Patriots (20-12, 11-7 MSC) finished their regular season with a win over NCAA Division 2 Kentucky State (19-18).
The St. Catharine Patriots celebrated both their graduating senior and a win in their finale as the Kentucky State Thorobreds invaded Lourdes Hall on Tuesday night. For Randa Murphy (Greensburg, Ky.) it was the last game in Lourdes Hall, but she made the most of it as she helped lead the Patriots to a 3-0 victory over the Kentucky State on 14 digs. The Patriots stormed out of the starting gate quickly as they downed the Thorobreds 25-15 in the first set. However, set two proved to be a battle as the Patriots and the Kentucky State traded point for point. With the score within one, Rebecca Just (Louisville, Ky.) struck a kill, propelling the Patriots to a 3-0 run and a 25-21 victory. As set three began, it seemed as if the Thorobreds were going to keep pace once more, that is until the Patriots went on a dominating run to defeat Kentucky State 25-15. The Patriots were led by Rebecca Just with 12 digs, Allie Southard (Louisville, Ky.) with 5 kills, and Cat Hall (Louisville, Ky.) with 6 kills.
It will be tournament time when the Patriots return to the floor Friday, November 15th at 2 PM, when they face the Shawnee State Bears (17-14, 9-9 MSC). During the regular season the Patriots split the series with the Bears 1-1, with both teams winning on their home court. The Patriots own the most recent victory from October 12th when they shut the Bears out 3-0. The Patriots’ loss came early in the season on September 24th when they fell on the road 3-2 after leading 2-0.
