With the conference season looming, the Lady Patriots (1-3) hit the road to take on Wilberforce University (1-7).
The St. Catharine Patriots headed to Wilberforce University, knowing that their conference opener against Pikeville was just around the corner, and with the prep time running out, the Patriots were looking to make final adjustments. In the first half of play the Patriots got behind as Wilberforce went seven for 11 from behind the arc, giving them a 47-43 halftime advantage.
As the second half opened the Patriots kept the pressure on as the hot hand of Rianne Hofstraat (Netherlands) and her 27 points, keeping the Patriots within striking distance. With the contest coming to a conclusion, the Patriots received a spark from the bench, as Cora Moore (Louisville, Ky.) tallied 18 point in just 11 minutes of play. However, the Patriots couldn’t overcome the deficit as they dropped the contest 93-84. “It’s a disappointing loss” said Head Coach Lena Bramblett. “We did not come to play as a whole; we are a new team still trying to find our identity, but we have to play hard.”
The Patriots will return to action Thursday night at 6 PM as they open conference play against the Pike Bears in Lourdes Hall.
