Thursday, at 2pm, the Patriot soccer team took on Lindsey Wilson College (JV) at home. The game got off to a slow start as both teams looked somewhat sluggish. Whether it was the heat or the humidity, neither team was able to put together much consistent play. 15 minutes in, Lindsey was able to earn a corner kick. The kick sailed into the box and was knocked down by an SCC player. In the midst of the chaos, the ball was knocked into the goal for a 1-0 Lindsey Wilson lead. From that point on, Lindsey had the better of the play for the remainder of the half. Constantly putting pressure on the St. Catharine goal paid off as they were able to score again in the last 5 minutes of the half.
The Patriots came out fired up and looking to get back into the game after trailing 2-0 at half. SCC played much better in the second half and were able to get more opportunities at the goal as the game went on. However, 12 minutes into the second half, a long ball by Lindsey Wilson got through the back line and the Blue Raiders were able to finish it off to take a 3-0 lead. SCC continued to push and were able to hold much of the possession, but were unable to score any goals down the stretch and the 3-0 score held up for the final.
