After finishing their fall finals, the St. Catharine Patriots (7-3, 1-1 MSC) hit the road for Bluefield, Va. to play in the Ramey Car Classic at Bluefield College.
Heading into the long weekend the Patriots were coming off of an impressive conference weekend that comprised of a one point loss in overtime to #7 Pikeville and a momentum building win over Bluefield College. In game one the Patriots would square off against The West Virginia Institute of Technology (8-4), a team that was receiving votes in the NAIA national poll. After both teams played to a standoff in the first half 42-42, the Patriots exploded for 47 second half points to prevail 89-80. In fact, the Patriots led by as many at 14 at times behind 53.3% second half shooting. The Patriots had four players in double digit scoring, led by Will Tolefree (Stone Mountain, Ga.) with 21 points and seven rebounds. Will Bailey (Valley, Ala.) contributed 19, Chris Johnson (Bowling Green, Ky.) nailed down 13, and Omar Skinner (New Castle, Del.) dropped in 11.
With the emotional win in the rear view mirror, the Patriots would square off against Barber Scotia College (0-12). The Patriots found their rhythm early as the pulled out to a 46-20 first half lead behind 56.6% shooting. Even with a stalemate in the second half, both teams with 28, the Patriots were able to cruise to a 74-48 victory. The Patriots were led by three players in double digit scoring; Taron Franklin (Philadelphia, Penn.) tallied 15, Julito Hutchinson (Atlanta, Ga.) found 11 hard earned points, and William Tolfree came home with 11 as well.
The Patriots will remain on the road for the holiday as they will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on William Carey University December 12th and NCAA Division 1 University of Southern Mississippi on December 14th.
