The St. Catharine Patriots fell to 7-4 on the year last night on the road to #9 William Carey University Crusaders (6-1) 84-70.
After falling behind early in the first half the Patriots went on a 12-3 run, taking the lead 27-22 with just over five minutes to play. With both defenses keeping scorers at bay, the Patriots were able to capitalize on multiple Crusader miscues to make a 7-0 run and take a four point lead with two minutes remaining. However, the Crusaders offense caught fire at the end of the half, scoring the final five points and taking a 38-37 lead to halftime.
Only trailing by two, the Patriots were unable to stop a 13-0 run by the Crusaders early in the second half, placing them down 15. Even with the 16 point performance from Will Bailey (Valley, Ala.), the Patriots could not overcome the deficit and their 23 turnovers.
The Patriots were led by stellar performances from Will Tolefree (Stone Mountain, Ga.) with 14 points and Omar Skinner (New Castle, Del.) with 12 points. The Patriots out rebounded the Crusaders 43-40, led by Will Bailey with nine boards.
The Patriots will continue their Mississippi road trip Saturday when they take on NCAA Division 1 University of Southern Mississippi.
