The St. Catharine Patriots (8-4, 2-1 MSC) ignored the #23 ranking of Cumberland University (10-2, 2-1 MSC), as they dominated the host Bulldogs 83-60 on Thursday night in Lebanon, Tennessee.
With one semester of play under their belt the St. Catharine Patriots showed why they were receiving votes in the latest NAIA Poll. As soon as the game tipped off the Patriots jumped out to an early seven point lead, following a hard fought three point play from Julito Hutchinson (Atlanta, Ga.) seven minutes into the contest. From there the Patriots went on a scoring torrent led by Stephen McCray (Baltimore, Md.) who drilled three straight trifectas to open a 21 point advantage for the Patriots with 6:22 remaining in the half.
Following a 41-26 halftime advantage, the Patriots continued to dominate as McCray continued to have the hot hand with his six of eight three point shooting and 20 total points on the night. The Patriots led by as many as 26 in the second half, gaining 43 points on the night from their deep bench. The Patriots out-rebounded the Bulldogs 44-29 and were led inside by Jalito Hutchinson with nine boards. In his Patriot debut, Raymon Austin (Cleveland, Ohio) netted seven points and grabbed six boards in only 17 minutes of play.
The Patriots will continue their quest to reach the top of the MSC Saturday as they travel to Lindsey Wilson College (9-5, 0-2 MSC) to battle the Blue Raiders at 5 PM EST.
