A leap to second place in the conference standings was the result of the St. Catharine Patriot’s (9-4, 3-1 MSC) 77-56 win over Lindsey Wilson (10-4, 1-3 MSC) on Saturday.
After a slow start on offense, Will Bailey (Valley, Ala.) drilled a shot from behind the arc to put the Patriots up nine with just six minutes to go in the first half. Following two missed free throws from the Blue Raiders, Raymon Austin (Cleveland, Ohio) got in on the action as he found pay dirt in the lane for two of his 16 points on the night, padding the Patriots’ lead at 11. From there the Patriots maintained their lead in the final minutes of the first half, taking a 41-29 lead into the break.
The second half belonged to the Patriots, as they doubled the Blue Raiders’ shooting percentage at 50%. With their lead cut to eight (46-38), Omar Skinner (New Castle, Del.) sparked the Patriots with an acrobatic shot in the paint off the hands of Taron Franklin (Philadelphia, Penn.) for two of his 13 points on the night. From there the Patriots were able to maintain a double digit advantage, with the help of William Tolefree (Stone Mountain, Ga.) and his 21 point evening. The Patriots took their largest lead of the game at the 5:01 mark at 21, off a rebound from William Tolefree (15 total) that would lead to an Omar Skinner basket in the paint. The Patriots would maintain the advantage until the final buzzer prevailing 77-56.
The Patriots will play host to the University of the Cumberland’s (9-4, 1-2 MSC) Thursday in Lourdes Hall at 8 PM in the “Battle of the Patriots.”
