The St. Catharine Patriots (11-7, 5-4 MSC) couldn’t overcome costly mistakes to hold off the Campbellsville Tigers (8-9, 3-6 MSC), falling 67-57 on Thursday.

Thursday night Mid-South Conference games haven’t been kind to the Patriots this season as they fell to 1-4 on the year with their loss to Campbellsville Thursday night on the road. The Patriots got out of the gait quickly when Raymon Austin (Cleveland, Ohio) snagged a steal to allow Dominque Roy (Penn’s Grove, N.J.) to go coast to coast and find pay dirt and give the Patriots a seven point advantage. Minutes later with the Patriots leading by nine, William Tolefree (Stone Mountain, Ga.) pulled down a defensive rebound and found William Bailey (Valley, Ala.) on the other end of the floor for two of his team leading 11 on the night. However, the Patriots would fall victim to 39% shooting from the field and allow the Tigers to climb back in the contest just before the half to tie the contest at 31 going into the break.

After trading baskets for the first 10 minutes of the seconds half, a stint that saw the score tied five times, the Tigers pulled ahead by five before Austin snagged a rebound and nailed the put back to cease the Tiger run. Minutes later, Chris Johnson (Bowling Green, Ky.) would cut through the lane to draw a foul, allowing him to make both free throws and tie the contest at 53 with five minutes remaining. However, it would be the last time that the Patriots would tie the game as the Tigers went on a 14-4 run to close out the contest 67-57.

The Patriots will return to Lourdes Hall Thursday at 8 PM when they host Cumberland University for their second meeting of the season. The Patriots scored their only Thursday night victory of the season at Cumberland on January 2nd when they defeated the Bulldogs 83-60.
