The Lady Patriots (3-14, 1-10 MSC) couldn’t hold on late against the visiting Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders (15-8, 5-6 MSC).
After keeping the game close against the Bulldogs of Cumberland University in their last contest, the St. Catharine Lady Patriots didn’t waste any time proving to the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders that they were a much improved squad. After falling behind early 8-2, the Patriots stormed back on a 6-0 run capped off by a Rianne Hofstaat (Netherlands) basket from a Heather Sandlin (Florence, Ky.) no-look assist. The Patriots would fall behind again by as many as seven before the Sandlin-Hofstraat connection capped off another Patriot run to bring the Pats within three. With just over two minutes remaining in the half the Patriots would find themselves in another six point hole, but right on cue, the Pats tore off a 5-0 run to end the half on the hot hand of Cora Moore (Louisville, Ky.) who drilled a shot from behind the arc and a long two pointer to send the Patriots into the break trailing by one, 32-31.
The Lady Patriots got out the gate quickly in the second half, jumping on top by six after a Lexus Edwards (Lexington, Ky.) field goal from a Sandlin assist. Following a short run by the Blue Raiders, which saw them take the lead by three with 13 minutes to go, Rianne Hofstraat drilled a shot from behind the arc to tie the contest a 47 with just over 12 remaining. Following a hard fought rebound by Edwards, Cora Moore stroked the net for two more giving the Patriots a six point advantage with nine remaining. However, the Blue Raiders would go on a 13-0 run to take a seven point lead before Moore would cut through the paint to earn two free throws. Unfortunately for the Patriots, the Blue Raiders would tear off another 10-0 run on free throws to close the game and seal the 76-66 victory.
The Patriots will travel to Georgetown on Thursday for a rematch with the Tigers at 6 PM. The Lady Patriots fell to the Tigers earlier in the year 72-63 and will look to earn their first victory in Georgetown.
