The Patriots traveled to Columbia, Kentucky to play Lindsey Wilson College JV on Sunday. SCC started out a little shaky in this one, and was on their heels defensively from the start. Three minutes into the game, an SCC foul in the penalty box resulted in a LWC penalty kick. Lindsey’s Eber Martinez was able to finish off the kick despite SCC goalkeeper, Will Johnston getting a hand on the ball. Shortly after the penalty, SCC came alive. The Patriots began to play inspired soccer. The defense stepped up and held Lindsey out while the team controlled possession and put together some exciting play. In the 7th minute, Clint Smith smartly played a ball back to the top of the Lindsey Wilson box and Will Meza blasted the ball into the left upper corner of the goal to even the score at 1 apiece. Five minutes later, Adam Waller crossed a ball across the LWC goal and Jonathan Foster run under the ball, settled it, and finished it off for a 2-1 SCC lead. Unfortunately, SCC could not maintain the level of play and LWC struck back late in the half. Four Lindsey goals in the last 20 minutes of the half put SCC down 5-2 at the half.
SCC regrouped at halftime and began to play solid soccer again after the break. In the 51st minute, a foul in front of the LWC goal gave SCC a penalty kick. Will Meza slotted it neatly into the corner and the lead was cut to two. 8 minutes later, LWC answered with a goal off a head ball to finish the scoring. The final score held at LWC 6 – SCC 3.
