The St. Catharine Patriots (13-8, 7-5 MSC) couldn’t overcome foul trouble against the #13 Georgetown Tigers (18-5, 9-3 MSC) falling 86-81 on Thursday night.
The Patriots couldn’t take advantage of double digit scoring nights from Omar Skinner (New Castle, Del.), Romeo Lewis (Detroit, Mich.) and Will Tolefree (Stone Mountain, Ga.) en route to their five point loss to Georgetown on the road. In their last meeting, the Patriots defeated the Tigers 103-90 in Lourdes Hall, but foul trouble would eventually be there demise in Thursday night’s contest. After falling behind by as many as 10, Dominique Roy (Penn’s Grove, N.J.) found the net with 17 seconds remaining, sending the Patriots into the locker room trailing by eight.
The second half proved to be a fight for the Patriots as they were able to tear off an 8-2 run to tie the game at 52 with 15:42 remaining. After trading baskets for several minutes the Tigers went on a 9-2 run to open up a seven point advantage with 9:54 remaining. However, Romeo Lewis sliced through the paint and found the bottom of the net to spark a run for the Patriots. With just over two minutes remaining Omar Skinner and Taron Franklin nailed back to back baskets to cut the lead to three. Unfortunately for the Patriots, they were unable to connect on their three point shots at the end of the contest, causing them to fall 86-81.
The Patriots will travel to the University of the Cumberland’s for the “Battle of the Patriots” on Saturday for a 4 PM tip off.
