Calhoun goes for 26 as the Lady Patriots (4-16, 1-12 MSC) snag a win against the visiting Wilberforce Bulldogs 82-81.
After falling behind by as many as 10 in the first half, the undermanned St. Catharine Lady Patriots rode 62% shooting to fight their way back into the contest. Trailing by eight with just over six minutes remaining in the contest Machera Calhoun (Fort Meyers, Fla.) cut to the basket untouched to cut the lead to six. Over the next six minutes the Lady Patriots would claw their way uphill, capped off by a shot from behind the arc by Rianne Hofstraat (Netherlands) to send the game into the half tied at 46.
Early in the second half the Lady Patriots were able to build a 12 point advantage. However, the Bulldogs would mount a comeback of their own, tearing off a 17-5 run to tie the contest at 70 with 6:44 remaining. With the Patriots only managing 7 of 18 from the charity stripe, the Bulldogs would hang around trailing by at most two before Calhoun would force her way to the basket to find the bottom of the net one more time to take a one point Lady Patriot lead.
The Lady Patriots will be back in action Thursday night when they host the Shawnee State Bears at 6 PM in Lourdes Hall.
