The Bears of Shawnee State stunned the St. Catharine Lady Patriots with only two tenths of a second remaining.

The St. Catharine Lady Patriots have had a roller coaster season thus far in 2014, but on Thursday night in Lourdes Hall the Patriots were living on cloud nine for all but two tenths of a second. After trailing by only five at the break, the Patriots fell behind by as many as 14 in the second half. With just over 10 minutes remaining in the contest Stacie Shout (Florence, Ky.) drilled a shot from the volleyball line to stop the Bear run and cut the lead to 11.

With just over eight minutes remaining Carol Ruiz-Lopez (Fort Meyers, Fla.) drilled a shot just inside the arc to spark a 10-0 run, that lead to a 53-53 tie. Ruiz-Lopez struck once more following a missed Bear shot to thrust the Patriots ahead by three. With one minute remaining in the contest, the Patriots took their biggest lead of the game off of two key free throws from Sasha Ruiz-Lopez (Fort Meyers, Fla.). However, the Bears would rally to tie the contest with a shot from behind the arc with just two seconds remaining. Following a pivotal Patriot turnover, the Bears would inbound the ball under their own basket to Allanah Sheets, who would bury a tip in to break the hearts of the Patriots.

The Lady Patriots will hit the floor once more Saturday against the Rio Grande Red Storm at 2 PM in Lourdes Hall.
