Track and field newcomer Brooke Gee (Ashland, Ky.) led the way as the Patriots traveled to DePauw University.
Brooke Gee wasted no time making an impression on Head Coach Blake Jones in her first event as a St. Catharine track and field athlete when she tossed a 10.75 meter throw in the women’s shot put event at DePauw University. “Brooke had a great day” said Jones. “With some work she will continue to get better and help our team.” Gee’s toss was good enough for a fifth place finish out of 20 competitors scoring her four points in the standings.
Shaun Gordon (Radcliff, Ky.) rivaled Gee’s performance, when he nailed down a fourth place finish in the men’s triple jump. Gordon was able to squeak out a 12.84 meter jump in order to gain five points in the standings for the Patriots. “Shaun didn’t have his best day, but he still had a strong performance” said Jones. Tyler Dunn (Harrodsburg, Ky.) came in just behind his teammate in the triple jump with an 11.81 meter performance, good enough for a top 15 finish.
On the running side of the event AJ Middleton (Montgomery, Ala.) churned out a 17:59 in the men’s 5000 meter run. In the women’s 60 meter dash Samantha Osborn (Radcliff, Ky.) gave her all with a 9.37 with teammate Jenna Foster (Dahlonega, Ga.) finishing just a split second behind with a 9.44.
The Patriots will hit the ground running when they travel to the Berea College invitational on March 22nd in Berea, Kentucky.
