Playing their fifth game in four days, the St. Catharine College Baseball team beat visiting Asbury University 3-1 Tuesday, behind strong pitching performances of three seniors.

CJ Gant (Louisville, KY) tossed 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits.  Cody Alvey (Upton, KY) picked up the win with 2 innings of relief.  Cory Klinger (Rushlyvania, OH) pitched a scoreless 8th inning and sophomore Jake McCoy (Mesa, AZ) picked up his second save of the year with a scoreless 9th.

"Our pitching was great yesterday, I'm proud of those seniors efforts," stated Luther Bramblett.  "Our guys pounded the zone - just 2 base on balls in 9 innings is where we want to be.  We rolled two double plays and defended well overall.  We just need to do a better job of making adjustments at the plate."

The Patriots scored in the bottom of the first inning, when Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) singled, stole second and stole home on a double steal with Ty Broady (Greenville, KY) who reached via the HBP. The game was knotted at 1-1 until the bottom of the 6th inning.

Broady singled and moved to second on a fielder's choice ground out.  With 2 out's pinch hitter Eric Standafer (Shelbyville, KY) singled home Broady with the game winning RBI.  After a Asbury error, Adrain Garcia (Anaheim, CA) stole second and Standafer stole home for the second double steal for the Patriots on the day.  Bohorquez led the Pats with 2 hits, a run and 2 stolen bases.

The Patriots continue their homestand this weekend when they open up MSC play with University of Pikeville on Friday and Saturday.
