With conference seeding on the line, the St. Catharine Patriots (17-10, 10-7 MSC) took to the road for their longest trip of the year to battle the Bluefield Rams (14-11, 7-10 MSC).
Just one week after taking over second place in the conference standings, the St. Catharine Patriots took a step backwards in Thursday night’s contest with the Bluefield College Rams. After leading 40-39 at the break the St. Catharine Patriots would fall victim to a dismal 3-7 mark from the free throw line in the second half.
The Patriots were paced by Raymon Austin (Cleveland, Ohio) with 18 points and 10 boards, while Chris Johnson (Bowling Green, Ky.) and Omar Skinner (New Castle, Del.) tacked on 11 apiece. On the boards the Patriots outmuscled the Rams 43-32 with 20 of those being on the offensive glass. However, turnovers and missed shots plagued the Patriots down the stretch as they fell 81-76 to the Rams.
With the los, the Patriots will slide back into a third place behind Georgetown College and the University of Pikeville. The Patriots will have an opportunity to solidify their seeding when they travel to Pikeville on Saturday to take on the #2 Bears, whom they fell victim to in Lourdes Hall by just one point, at 4 PM.
