PATRIOTS DROP TWO 1-RUN GAMES TO THE TIGERS

The Patriots and visiting Campbellsville Univerity Tigers battled in two one run games, as the Pats dropped two Sunday, 2-1 and 3-2.  Campbellsville wins the series and both teams are now 3-3 in Mid-South Conference play.

"We had our chances to win both games," stated Luther Bramblett.  "We just didnt make the plays in the opener and didn't have great approaches at the plate in the last game.  We must do a better job at the plate, because our arms are giving us a chance to win games."

In the opener, The Patriots had control of the game as Andrew Nelson (Eureka, CA) kept the Tigers off the board for 7 innings.  The senior lefty surrendered 2 hits and struck out 9.  Trenton Claunch (Burgin, KY) took the loss, giving up 2 runs - 1 earned in the top of the 8th inning.

The Patriot bats banged out 9 hits, but stranded 7 runners through 9 innings.  St. Catharine scored in the bottom of the 5th inning on a 2-out single by Ty Broady (Greenville, KY), scoring Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) who reached on a single.  The Patriots threatened in five other innings, but couldn't produce the key hit.  Nick Rosso (Santa Barbara, CA) went 3-4 on the game.  Dominique Guevara (Oxnard, CA) had a 2 hit day and Bohorquez scored a run, had a swipe and added 2 base knocks.

In the nightcap, the Patriots were playing catchup the entire contest.  The Tigers jumped on the board in the top of the first off starter Steven Borkowski (San Diego, CA).  SC evened the game with a run in the second after Adrian Garcia (Anaheim, CA) singled and scored on a Eric Standafer (Shelbyville, KY) ground out.  Campbellsville answered again the the top of the third to take a short lead until courtesy runner Cody Kollenberg (PeeWee Valley, KY) scored on a Rosso ground out to knot the game at 2-2.

The Tigers took the lead for good in the top of the 5th inning and the Patriots would strand 3 runners over the next 3 innings, two in scoring position, and drop the game and series to Campbellsville.  Borkowski suffered the loss after scattering 7 hits in his 6 innings.  Jake McCoy (Mesa, AZ) pitched a scoreless 7th and added 2 K's.  At the dish, SC could only muster 2 hits, one for Garcia and Danny Jimenez (Fountain Valley, CA) went 1-2.

The Patriots play again Tuesday when they visit Brescia University in Owensboro, KY for a DH.
