Newport Central Catholic Girls Soccer standout, Amanda Schabell signed a scholarship contract with St. Catharine College in the High School Library on Tuesday to officially join the Patriot Soccer Program.
Amanda was a key component of Kevin Turnik's Thoroughbred team that won the "All-A" State Championship during the 2013 Season. In addtion to the Championship, the team finished 13-4-4, were the 36th District Runner-Up and made it to the second round of the 9th Region Tournament. Amanda primarily played defender and forward for the Thoroughbreds.
During her high school soccer career she won the "Thoroughbred Award" in 2011 as well as the "12 Man" award as a sophomore. Amanda also played travel soccer in the spring for NKSA Select.
Patriot Head Coach Paul Patton, present at the signing, commented, "We are happy and excited to be adding Amanda to our team. She is a strong soccer player with a great attitude. She works hard and will be a great addition to our program. I am sure that she will represent St. Catharine and our team well."
Amanda is the second soccer player to sign on with the Patriot Women's Soccer program in as many years. She plans to study in the area of the Health Sciences while at St. Catharine.
