PATRIOTS WALK OFF #10 CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY

The Patriots (10-12, 4-3) rallied to pick up a walk off win against #10 ranked Cumberland University (16-10, 3-4) at home in the MSC opener Friday, 7-6.  Nick Rosso (Santa Barbara, CA) singled off the second baseman's glove scoring pinch runner Cody Kollenberg (PeeWee Valley, KY) for the game winner.

Cumberland University scored in the top of the first off Patriot starter John Werner (Anaheim, CA).  SC tied the game in the bottom of the 2nd inning off starter Anthony Gomez after he was injured on a comebacker off his leg.  Ty Broady (Greenville, KY) laid down a perfect 2-out drag bunt to score Adrian Garcia (Anaheim, CA) who reached on a single.  Kevin T. Green came in for Gomez and the Patriots took the lead in the 4th when Nick Rosso reached on a HBP and was bunted into scoring position.  Danny Jimenez (Fountain Valley, CA) scored Rosso on a single to left.

The Pat's tacked on 3 more runs in the bottom of the 5th when Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, IN) doubled to lead off the inning and went to third on a error.  Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezulea) singled home Kollenberg.  Francisco Gonzalez (San Diego, CA) was hit by a pitch and the Rosso bunted both into scoring position.  Garcia plated Bohorquez on a sac fly and Jimenez scored Gonzalez on his second base knock of the game.

Werner had held the Bulldogs scoreless until the 6th when he surrendered a 3-run blast to Brady North to pull the Bulldogs to one.  Trenton Claunch (Burgin, KY) relieved Werner in the 7th and Cumberland would tally 2 runs, 1 each in the 8th and 9th innings to take a lead.  Eric Donnelly (Coral Springs, FL) walked to leadoff the 9th and Eric Standafer (Shelbyville, KY) slashed a double down the right field line to put runners at second and third.  Bohorquez walked to load the bases and Gonzalez tied the game on a HBP.  Rosso banged the second pitch he saw off a drawn in infielders golve for the game winner.

Claunch picked up the win for the Patriots.  Werner tossed 6 innings and scattered 6 hits.  He allowed 4 runs and punched out 5.  Claunch allowed 2 runs on 4 hits.  At the plate, the Patriots were led by Jimenez who went 2-3 with 2 RBI's.  Bohorquez went 2-4 with a run and RBI and Broady went 2-4 with a RBI.  The Bat Pats had 11 base knocks in the contest and eight Patriots recorded a hit.

The two clubs meet up again tomorrow for a DH starting at 12:00.
