COLUMBIA, Ky. – St. Catharine (Ky.) junior Nick Rosso is the Mid-South Conference Baseball Player of the Week and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) sophomore Scott Sebald is the MSC Pitcher of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday. The weekly awards are the first of the season for both.
Rosso hit .467 (7-for-15) during the week while helping the Patriots win three of their five games, including taking the weekend series from No. 10-ranked Cumberland (Tenn.). The Santa Barbara, Calif., outfielder began his week going 2-for-3 with a grand slam and five runs batted in during an 18-14 loss to Brescia (Ky.). During the weekend series with Cumberland, Rosso had five hits while scoring three times.
In the Patriots lone loss of the weekend, Rosso went 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs. In the final game of the series, Rosso was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs in the 7-4 win. Rosso finished the week with a home run and nine RBIs. He scored six times while producing an .800 slugging percentage. Rosso is hitting .316 this season with a home run and 14 RBIs. St. Catharine improves to 11-13 overall and 5-4 in the Mid-South Conference with last week's results.
Sebald earned two wins during the week, including a complete-game shutout against Bluefield (Va.) to earn the conference's pitcher of the week honors. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native picked up a win in relief as the Blue Raiders beat No. 24-ranked William Carey (Miss.) 5-3. Sebald allowed a run and five hits over his three innings of work. He struck out three William Carey batters en route to the win.
Over the weekend, Sebald hurled a two-hit, complete-game shutout in Lindsey Wilson's 5-0 win over Bluefield to improve to 4-0 on the season. He struck out three Rams without issuing a walk to help the Blue Raiders clinch the weekend series. Sebald is tied for second in the Mid-South with his four wins. He is 16th in opponent's batting average (.266) and 17th in strikeouts (24). Sebald owns a 4.05 ERA with 24 strikeouts in his 33-1/3 innings. No. 15-ranked Lindsey Wilson improves to 15-14 overall and 4-5 in the Mid-South with last week's results.
