The season long win streak ends at five games with the Patriots loss at NCAA DI Morehead State University. The Pats loss 9-3 and drop to 18-15 on the season.
The Eagles scored runs in the 1st and 3rd innings off starter Bruce Tolliver (Whittier, CA), before the Patriots cut in in half in the top of the 4th inning. Adrian Garcia (Anaheim, CA) singled off the right field fence and stole second, then advanced to third on a error. Eric Standafer (Shelbyville, KY) plated Garcia on a groundout.
MSU got to Tolliver in the bottom half of the inning, plating 3 runs off of him and 3 more off reliever Cory Klinger (Rushlyvania, OH). Tolliver went 3 innings and allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits and suffered the loss. Klinger tossed 2.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks.
The Patriots scored single runs in the 7th and 9th innings behind the duo of Ty Broady (Greenville, KY) and Harold Diaz (Gurabo, PR). In both frames, Broady singled and Diaz doubled him home. Broady led the Patriots at the plate, going 3-4 with 2 runs. Diaz went 2-3 with 2 doubles and reached by a HBP. Standafer, Garcia and Nick Rosso (Santa Barbara, CA) were the other Pats to record base knocks.
Eric Donnelly (Coral Springs, FL) tossed 2/3 of an inning in relief, as did Rich Corrente (Chatham, ON). Corrente allowed a hit and a run. Trenton Claunch (Burgin, KY) got an out and Jake McCoy (Mesa, AZ) tossed a scoreless frame.
The Patriots return to action this weekend when they go to #9 Georgetown College in a Mid-South Conference series.
