BASEBALL SWEPT BY #9 GEORGETOWN

The Patriots (18-18, 10-8) ran into a red hot Georgetown College (27-4, 14-3) team this weekend, losing all three games in the MSC series.  The Pats lost 4-3, 5-2 and 6-1 and dropped into fourth place in the Mid-South Conference.

"We had our chances," noted Patriot skipper Luther Bramblett. "We left too many people on base in the opener and lost.  We never regained our approach at the plate after that.  They're a good team and when you have chances against quality oppenents - you must score them."

In the opener, the Patriots tallied 10 hits - 8 against the top arm in the conference, but left 11 guys on base.  The Pats scored 2 in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Danny Jimenez (Fountain Valley, CA) singled and Harold Diaz (Gurabo, PR) was hit by a pitch and Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, IN) drove them home.  The Tigers evened the score with 2 off Patriot starter John Werner (Anaheim, CA) in the bottom of the 3rd.  Georgetown would tack on runs in the 5th and 7th inning to go up by 2.

Werner tossed 6.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits.  He tallied 4 K's.  Trenton Claunch (Burgin, KY) tossed the final 1.2 innings in relief.  The Patriots loaded the bases in the 8th, but couldn't produce a run.  They scored in the top of the 9th when Adrian Garcia (Anaheim, CA) singled home Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela).  Bohorquez led the Patriots at the plate going 3-4 with a run and 2 SB.  Seven other Bat Pats record hits.

Game two saw much of the same for the Patriots.  Again, they jumped ahead of the 9th ranked Tigers, when Bohorquez singled, stole third and scored on a Nick Rosso (Santa Barbara, CA) ground out.  The Tigers got to starter Andrew Nelson (Eureka, CA) in the bottom of the 4th and tallied 5 runs in the inning.  Nelson went 3.2 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 4 hits.  He punched out 6 Tigers.  Cory Klinger (Rushlyvania, OH) and Rich Corrente (Chatham, ON) both tossed the final 2.1 innings, allowing no runs.  Garcia homered in the top of the 7th for the final margin.  Both Garcia and Bohorquez paced the Patriots, with Bohorquez getting 2 hits and scoring a run and Garcia with the solo shot.  Rosso had the other RBI and base knock for the Patriots.

In the final game, the Patriots scored in the 2nd inning to knot the game at 1.  Garcia singled and advanced to 3rd on a error and scored on a wild pitch for the lone Patriot run.  Steven Borkowski (San Diego, CA) tossed 7 innings, allowing 6 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits.  He struck out 4.  Claunch tossed the final frame for the Pats.  Garcia led the Patriots with a run scored and a 2 hit game.  Marc Mason (Tehama, CA) and Bohorquez were the only other Patriots to record base hits.

The Patriots are schedule to play at Berea College on Tuesday and at home with Union College on Wednesday.
