BULLDOGS BITE THE PATRIOTS IN 14 INNINGS

After an 11 inning game on Tuesday, the St. Catharine College Baseball club (19-19, 10-8) followed that up with a 14 inning battle Wednesday with Union College. The Bulldogs (27-13) outlasted the Patriots 6-3.

Cody Alvey (Upton, KY) tossed another quality start, going 7 innings and allowing 2 unearned runs.  Alvey scattered 3 hits and tallied 7 K's.  Down 2-0 in the 8th, the Patriots tied the game when Harold Diaz (Gurabo, PR) singled and scored on a Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, IN) double.  Pinch runner Lamont Calloway (Louisville, KY) scored an out later on a wild pitch to even the game up.

The Bulldogs took the lead off Patriot reliever Cory Klinger (Rushlyvania, OH) in the 12th.  Klinger went 3 innings, allowing a run on 3 hits.  The Patriots answered back in the bottom half after Josh Whitmer (Taylorsville, KY) doubled and Calloway scored on a Kissel single.

The Bulldogs finally got to reliever Trenton Claunch (Burgin, KY) in the 14th, plating 3 runs.  The Bat Pats loaded the bases in the bottom half, but failed to score.  Claunch suffered the loss, going 3 innings and surrendering 3 runs on 5 hits with 5 K's.

Kissel led the Patriots with a 3-4 game.  He doubled and had 2 RBI's.  Diaz added a 2 hit game as did Marc Mason (Tehama, CA) and Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela).

The Patriots are back in action this weekend with a single game on Saturday at 3:00 and the DH on Sunday at 1:00 against Lindsey Wilson College.
