After an 11 inning game on Tuesday, the St. Catharine College Baseball club (19-19, 10-8) followed that up with a 14 inning battle Wednesday with Union College. The Bulldogs (27-13) outlasted the Patriots 6-3.
Cody Alvey (Upton, KY) tossed another quality start, going 7 innings and allowing 2 unearned runs. Alvey scattered 3 hits and tallied 7 K's. Down 2-0 in the 8th, the Patriots tied the game when Harold Diaz (Gurabo, PR) singled and scored on a Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, IN) double. Pinch runner Lamont Calloway (Louisville, KY) scored an out later on a wild pitch to even the game up.
The Bulldogs took the lead off Patriot reliever Cory Klinger (Rushlyvania, OH) in the 12th. Klinger went 3 innings, allowing a run on 3 hits. The Patriots answered back in the bottom half after Josh Whitmer (Taylorsville, KY) doubled and Calloway scored on a Kissel single.
The Bulldogs finally got to reliever Trenton Claunch (Burgin, KY) in the 14th, plating 3 runs. The Bat Pats loaded the bases in the bottom half, but failed to score. Claunch suffered the loss, going 3 innings and surrendering 3 runs on 5 hits with 5 K's.
Kissel led the Patriots with a 3-4 game. He doubled and had 2 RBI's. Diaz added a 2 hit game as did Marc Mason (Tehama, CA) and Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela).
The Patriots are back in action this weekend with a single game on Saturday at 3:00 and the DH on Sunday at 1:00 against Lindsey Wilson College.
