St. Catharine College (20-21, 11-10) dropped the series with Lindsey Wilson College (24-21, 11-9) Sunday, dropping both games of the double header, 8-7 and 14-5.
In the opener, the Patriots jumped up early, scoring 3 runs over the first 2 innings. The Blue Raiders answered with 5 runs of their own, off starter Steven Borkowski (San Diego, CA), over the next 3 innings to take the lead. Down 8-3, the Patriots tallied 1 run in the 7th and 3 in the 8th to cut the lead to 1, but fell short.
St. Catharine left 11 guys on base in the loss. Nick Rosso (Santa Barbara, CA) led the Patriots at the plate, going 3-5 with a double, homerun and 3 RBI's. Francisco Gonzalez (San Diego, CA) went 2-4 with 3 runs and Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) had a 2 hit game with a run. Borkowski went 5 innings, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits. Trenton Claunch (Burgin, KY) tossed the final 4 frames and allowed 3 runs on 3 hits.
In the nightcap, it was all the Blue Raider offense. They pounded out 17 hits in route to the 14-5 win. Patriot starter Andrew Nelson (Eureka, CA) left in the first with an injury and put the Patriot bullpen to action. The Pats threw 5 pitchers and LWC plated runs off of every arm.
Harold Diaz (Gurabo, PR) led the Patriots at the plate, going 2-3 with a run and 2 RBI's. Ty Broady (Greenville, KY) went 2-2 with 2 runs and a RBI. Bohorquez had another 2 hit game with a stolen base.
St. Catharine is scheduled to play Tuesday, hosting Brescia University in a DH.
