St. Catharine College (20-22, 11-10) continued their rough stretch Wednesday, falling at Indiana University Southeast, 6-4. The Patriots had 12 hits, but left 12 runners on base in their 8th loss in the last 10 games.
"We're getting guys on base," noted Patriot leader Luther Bramblett. "We're just not getting the key hits with guys on. Our hitters are pressing, our pitchers are pressing and our defensive mistakes become magnified. We just need to rely on the guy next to us and we'll be okay."
The Grenadiers took a 5 run lead into the 6th before the Patriots could get on the board. SC scored 2 when Adrian Garcia (Anaheim, CA) and Danny Jimenez (Fountain Valley, CA) singled, followed by a Ty Broady (Greenville, KY) sac bunt to get both into scoring position. Dominique Guevara (Oxnard, CA) knocked in Garcia and Harold Diaz (Gurabo, PR) singled home Jimenez.
The Patriots got to the IUSE closer for 2 more in the 9th when Francisco Gonzalez (San Diego, CA) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Garcia singled him home, then stole second base. Broady doubled home Garcia for the final run. Diaz and Broady both went 3-4 with a RBI and a double each. Garcia went 2-4 with a RBI and scored 2 runs.
CJ Gant (Louisville, KY) suffered the loss. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits. Rich Corrente (Chatham, ON) tossed 1.1 innings, allowing 2 unearned runs on 2 hits. Cory Klinger (Rushlyvania, OH) tossed a scoreless inning and Cody Alvey (Upton, KY) pitched a inning, allowing an unearned run. Jake McCoy (Mesa, AZ) hurled a scoreless 8th.
The Patriots return to action this Friday when they travel to the University of the Cumberlands for a MSC weekend series.
