The Patriots (21-24, 12-12) won 1 of 3 games this weekend at the University of the Cumberlands (28-20, 8-15). With the win, the Patriots qualified for the Mid-South Conference tournament the first week of May.
In the opener, John Werner (Anaheim, CA) tossed another quality start, but came up short in a 2-1 loss. Werner gave up 2 runs, 1 earned, in the bottom of the first inning and that was enough for the Patriots of Cumberlands.Trenton Claunch (Burgin, KY) tossed a scoreless 8th.
SC out hit UC with 9 hits and left 12 runners stranded. Alfredo Bohorquez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) led the Pats, going 3-5. Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, IN) went 1-4 with the only RBI. Five other Bat Pats had base knocks with Harold Diaz (Gurabo, PR) and Nick Rosso (Santa Barbara, CA) both having doubles.
The game 2, Andrew Nelson (Eureka, CA) tossed 7 innings, picking up the win. The senior allowed 1 run on 5 hits and punched out 7. Claunch tossed .2 of an inning, allowing 2 unearned runs on 4 hits. Jake McCoy (Mesa, AZ) picked up his 7th save of the year with 1.1 innings of work in the 5-4 SC win.
Adrian Garcia (Anaheim, CA) led the Pats, going 2-4 with a double, run and RBI. Diaz doubled and scored a run. Rosso added a 1-3 game with a run and RBI, as did Francisco Gonzales (San Diego, CA). Danny Jimenez (Fountain Valley, CA) went 1-2 with a RBI and Eric Donnelly (Coral Springs, FL) went 1-1 with a RBI.
In the nightcap, the Patriots fell 7-2 to lose the series. UC got to starter Steven Borkowski (San Diego, CA) in the 6th inning, scoring 5 runs. Borkowski went 5.2 innings, allowing 7 runs on 7 hits.
Diaz led the Patriots with a 2 hit game and RBI. Jimenez went 1-2 with a run and Garcia added a sac fly RBI.
