The Patriots’ tennis team completed their conference regular season on Monday when the nationally ranked Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders invaded the St. Catharine College Tennis Complex.
2014 has proven to be one of the most successful conference seasons for the St. Catharine Patriots tennis squad, winning two conference matchups with one win coming away from home. However, the strong fire power of the conference leading Blue Raiders proved to be too much for the Patriots in their final conference contest. In doubles action the Patriots fell in a hole early, dropping all three contests 8-0 and giving the Patriots a 3-0 deficit.
In singles action the Patriots didn’t find better results as they fell in their first two matches. Leading off for the Patriots in number five singles, Tyler Glover (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) put up a valiant fight, taking two points from the Blue Raiders’ Vilches, but fell 6-0, 6-2. The match was called early when the Patriots lost the defining point and fell behind 5-0, despite Andre Jacomini (Brazil) leading the second set of his match in number one singles 1-0.
On the women’s side Patriots were unable to overcome the Blue Raiders’ onslaught falling 6-0. The Patriots’ Shelby Rush (LaGrange, Ky.) led the way, falling just short of gaining Patriot points in a hard fought battle.
The Patriots will hit the courts for the final time at home Wednesday at 4 PM when they host the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers.
