The St. Catharine College Patriot Baseball Team (28-27) entered the Mid-South Conference Tournament as the number 3 seed and departed in third place as their season came to an end. The #3 seed and the 3rd place finish were both program highs for the Patriots this year.
"Our guys really competed and carried themselves well during the tournament," stated Luther Bramblett. "They were in every pitch of every game - it was fun to coach them over that last week."
Patriots 12 - Bluefield 2
In the tourney opener, the Patriots blistered Bluefield College 12-2 behind the John Werner (Anaheim, CA) complete game effort. Werner picked up the win, tossing 8 innings with 8 K's while scattering 5 Ram hits. The Pats were led by a 12 hit attack, with Francisco Gonzalez (San Diego, CA) leading the way with a 2-5 game a 4 RBI's. Drew Kissel (Jeffersonville, IN) had a 2-3 game with a RBI and both Adrian Garcia (Anaheim, CA) and Eric Donnelly (Coral Springs, FL) added 2 RBI doubles each. Harold Diaz (Gurabo, PR) went 1-2 with a RBI and scored 3 runs.
Cumberland University 12 - Patriots 0
The #23 Cumberland University Bulldogs jumped all over the Patriots early and ran away with the win. Andrew Nelson (Eureka, CA) suffered the loss with 5.2 innings of work. He allowed 7 runs on 10 hits. Cory Klinger (Rushlyvania, OH) and Bruce Tolliver (Whittier, CA) tossed 3.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on 2 hits. Nick Rosso (Santa Barbara, CA) went 2-4 and Harold Diaz addedd a double for the Patriots.
Patriots 4 - Campbellsville 3
In the losers bracket, the Patriots scored a run in the top of the 9th when Alfredo Bohorquez scored on a Nick Rosso groundout and held on for the win, eliminating the Tigers. Jake McCoy (Mesa, AZ) picked up the win with 2 innings of scoreless relief of starter Steven Borkowski (San Diego, CA). Borkowski tossed 7 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 6 hits and tallied 6 K's. Bohorquez led the Pats, going 2-5 with 2 runs. Eric Standafer (Shelbyville, KY) went 2-3.
Patriots 2 - Shawnee State 0
Cody Alvey (Upton, KY) tossed a gem in his final career start, going 7 innings, allowing 0 runs on 5 hits. He punched out 4 Bears. Trenton Claunch (Burgin, KY) tossed a scoreless 8th and Jake McCoy picked up his 9th save on the year with a scoreless 9th. Harold Diaz led the Patriots with the glove and with his bat. He went 3-4 with a RBI and robbed a would be game tying homerun in the 7th. Adrian Garcia went 2-4 with a run and RBI and Nick Rosso added a 2-3 game.
Georgetown 4 - Patriots 2
The season came to an end, dropping their final game to the #3 Tigers 4-2. Goergetown scored 2 runs in the top of the 8th inning and held on for the win. Trenton Claunch took the loss in relief of starter Bruce Tolliver. Tolliver went 6 strong innings, allowing 1 unearned run with 3 K's. Claunch allowed 2 earned runs in the loss. Both Harold Diaz and Alfredo Bohorquez went 2-3 with doubles. Josh Whitmer (Taylorsville, KY) added a double and Eric Donnelly added a RBI single.
The Patriots finished with a 28-27 overall record.
