TITAN TENNIS STAR SIGNS WITH ST. CATHARINE COLLEGE

Erin Pigman wants to play college tennis. And the Mercer County High School number one player will not have to go far to extend her tennis career.
In a ceremony Wednesday in front of her teammates and other Titan students, Pigman signed with Coach Jim Coomer to become a Patriot starting in the fall. “I’d like to thank my friends for being here to support me,” said Pigman. “Thanks to my team for lifting me up and thanks to Coach Coomer for giving me the opportunity.”
Pigman played number one singles for the Titans who were regional champions both her freshman and sophomore years and runner-up her junior season. “It is always a proud day when we have an athlete sign to play college athletics,” said Mercer County athletic director Jaziel Guerra. “Tennis is one of our flagship programs and Erin has been a big part of that. She is not just a good tennis player but an excellent student who is getting both an athletic scholarship and an academic scholarship.”
Titan’s head coach Diane Beauchamp also offered comments praising Pigman at Wednesday’s signing. “Erin is a perfect role model. She worked very hard year round and brought a lot of leadership to our team. It is a big role to play number one singles and she was very competitive while always showing great sportsmanship.”
Coomer has had good success in recruiting for the upcoming season and he feels Pigman will be a great addition. “I am extremely glad to have someone of Erin’s quality joining our program. St. Catharine will be a great fit for her, both on the tennis court and the classroom. It is always nice to get local athletes so their families can come watch them play,” said Coomer.
