The NAIA released the 2014 DakStats Academic All-American list yesterday and two Patriot baseball players were named. The pair join a long tradition of Bat Pats, joining 15 former Patriots that have been named Academic All-Americans and 12 under St. Catharine Head Coach Luther Bramblett.
Seniors Andrew Nelson (Eureka, CA) and Josh Whitmer (Taylorsville, KY) both met the qualifications with their overall GPA. Nelson, majoring in Psychology, has an overall 3.89 grade point average. Whitmer, majoring in Criminal Justice, has an overall grade point average of 3.69.
Players must have an overall GPA of 3.6 or better to be named to the NAIA Scholar Athlete Team. Both players were also named to the Mid-South Conference Academic Team.
"Both of these guys are the definition of student-athlete," stated Bramblett. "They are great examples of what hard work on and off the field will produce."
Nelson will return to complete his degree in the fall and Whitmer will enroll in the St. Catharine College Master's program to begin work on a degree in Leadership.
