The St. Catharine College Patriots Volleyball (5-0, 0-0 MSC) team took their four game winning streak to Wilmore, Ky. as they battled the Asbury University Eagles (3-1, 0-0 KIAC).
The Patriots kept their winning streak alive and got the win and earned a clean sweep of the Eagles (25-17, 27-25, 25-19), thus pushing their winning streak to five. Going into the match the Patriots were 0-4 against the Eagles dating back to 2008, but on Wednesday the Eagles faced a much different Patriots’ team than they had seen in years past.
Things got a little tight for the Patriots when they faced a 23-21 deficit in the second set. The Patriots would then capitalize on two errors by Eagle hitters knotting things up at 23 apiece. The Patriots still weren’t out of the woods yet as they faced game point down 23-24, but after a kill by Jordan Strickland (Lexington, Ky.) and an ace by senior leader Lauren Bowling (Florence, Ky.), the Patriots took the lead 25-24. The Patriots would then finish the rally with a kill by Rebecca Just (Louisville, Ky.) and another error by the Eagles giving the Patriots the set 27-25.
The Patriots were led by Rebecca Just who led Patriot hitters with 14 kills. Casey Stone (Princeton, Ky.) also joined the action with 11 kills. As a team the Patriot hitters tallied 45 kills and the Patriot setters assisted on 44 of those kills, with Strickland leading the way with 40 assists.
The Volleyball team looks to continue their winning streak when they head to Daytona Beach, Fla. where they will face stiff competition in the Embry-Riddle Labor Day Tournament.
