The Patriot Women’s Soccer team (2-7-1, 1-4 MSC) have hit a rough patch in their schedule as their losing streak moved to five after they were beaten 1-0 by archrival Georgetown College (3-7, 1-2 MSC) over the weekend.
The Patriots’ keeper Emily Belt (Paducah, Ky.) was able to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard in the second and 11th minute as she made two key saves. However, the Tiger offense broke through in the 12th minute as Zoe Stovik found the back of the net off a corner kick to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Patriots had a chance in the 28th minute when Macy Higdon (Elizabethtown, Ky.) broke free from the Tigers defense, but her shot was saved by the Tigers’ goalkeeper. Defense would hold for the remaining minutes as the Tigers took a 1-0 lead into the break.
The Tigers had two chances to stretch their lead to 2-0 in the 46th minute, but both opportunities went high. The Patriots had other chances in the 49th and 66th minute, but the Tigers’ keeper made two more key saves to preserve the 1-0 lead. The Patriots last gasp came when Courtney Anderson (Louisville, Ky.) broke free, but had her shot saved by the Tigers’ keeper. The Tigers’ defense was able to keep the Patriots off the scoreboard as they defeated the Patriots 1-0.
The Patriot offense was led by Courtney Hagedorn (Highland Heights, Ky.) who tallied two shots. The Patriots had five players record one shot each. The Tigers outshot the Patriots 12-7 for the match. Emily Belt played all 90 minutes in goal for the Patriots. Belt recorded six saves while only allowing one goal.
The Patriots will look to end their five game skid on Wednesday when they host Kentucky Christian University at 6 PM.
