     The Patriot volleyball team (19-5, 7-2 MSC) won the “Battle of the Patriots” on Tuesday night as they swept the University of the Cumberlands (14-9, 3-6 MSC) 3-0.

     The first set saw Cumberlands grab an early 4-2 lead, but the Patriots (SCC) would battle back to tie it at 4-4. UC would then go on a 4-0 run to take the lead back 8-4. St. Catharine would then grab their first lead of the match at 12-10 when they went on an 8-2 run. UC would then answer with a 4-1 run to retake the lead at 14-13. The Patriots (SCC) would finally put UC away for good when they went on 12-4 run to win the first 25-18.

     In the second set both teams would battle back and forth as they made their way to a tie at three apiece. SCC then went on a run to snag the lead at 8-6. Cumberlands would answer with a 3-0 run to regain the lead 9-8. The Patriots (SCC) would battle back to take the lead 15-13. The Patriots (SCC) then embarked on a 10-3 run to win the second set going away 25-16. With the 25-16 win the second set, the Patriots took a commanding two sets to none lead going into the third set.

     The third set saw Cumberlands grab an early 2-0 lead, but the Patriots (SCC) battled back to tie the set at 3-3. Cumberlands would retake the lead 7-5 when they went on a 4-2 run. The Patriots, however, would answer with a 4-0 run to grab the lead back at 9-7. Both team would trade points as they worked their way to a tie at 15 apiece. The Patriots were able to go on a 10-2 run to win the third set 25-17 and the match 3-0.

     Jordan Strickland (Lexington, Ky.) continued her excellent play as she racked up 28 assists, 10 digs and four kills in the victory. Strickland also led the Patriots with a .364 hitting percentage. Casey Stone (Princeton, Ky.) and Shauna Stone (Bardstown, Ky.) tied with a team high eight kills on the night. The Patriots had five different players record double digit digs on the night. They were led by junior Jodie Klein (Louisville, Ky.) who tallied 17 digs.

     The Patriots will travel the Missouri this weekend where they will compete in the Spartan Invitational. In their first game on Friday the Patriots will take on number 12th ranked nationally Missouri Baptist, then in the second game they take on Culver-Stockton College. Then on Saturday the Patriots will battle Saint Louis College of Pharmacy and in their second game the Patriots will take on 13th ranked Columbia College.
