The Women's Soccer Reserve Squad hosted Centre College and The University of the Cumberlands this week and were victorious in both matches. The wins move their record for the year to 5-0 with 4 shutouts.
The first match brought Centre College to the Barber Soccer Complex. Centre came out of the gate strong and had several chances to score, but the Patriot defense held strong. Hayley Greenwell opened the scoring when she put one in directly off a corner kick late in the first half. Molli Crawford put in the insurance goal midway through the second half when she pounced on a rebound off Centre's goalkeeper and slotted it home. Kelsey Givens played the entire game between the pipes for the Patriots and earned the shutout as the Patriots won 2-0.
Thursday night brought The University of Cumberlands to St. Catharine, and much like Centre, they came out of the gates quickly. Cumberlands scored in the first 10 minutes with a through pass that ended in a one on one with Patriot Goalkeeper, Jerrica Kidd. The goal put Cumberlands up 1-0. The Patriots would answer back late in the first half on a brilliant individual effort from Chelsey Landrum. Landrum dribbled past two defenders and slotted the ball between the Cumberland Goalie's legs for the equalizer. Midway through the second half, a missed clear from Cumberlands came to Patriot defender, Rachael Harbison who lofted a shot past Cumberlands' 'keeper from about 30 yards for the go-ahead goal. The Patriots would turn away a late surge from Cumberlands to win the match by a 2-1 score. in the goal for the Patiots, Jerrica Kidd allowed 1 goal in the first half while Kelsey Givens kept a clean sheet for the second half.
The Patriot Reserve team will be back in action when they host Campbellsville University on Tuesday, October 14th at 7pm on the Barber Soccer Field.
