Junior setter, Jordan Strickland (Lexington, Ky.), was named Mid-South Conference Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday.
The weekly honor for Strickland is her first of the season and the first of her Patriot career. In the Spartan Invitational over the weekend, Strickland was named to the All-Tournament Team.
In a 3-1 win against Shawnee State, Strickland recorded 42 assists, 16 digs and eight kills. She finished two kills short of a triple-double. Strickland continued her strong play in a 3-0 sweep of Cumberlands (Ky.), where she recorded 28 assist and 16 digs.
Strickland continued her strong play into the Spartan Invitational. In a 3-1 win against Culver-Stockton, she tallied 48 assist and 13 digs. Then in a 3-1 loss to #12 Missouri Baptist, Strickland recorded yet another double-double with 30 assists and 17 digs. Then in day two of the Spartan Invitational she compiled 76 assists and 18 digs in two matches, including a double-double against #13 Columbia College with 30 assists and 11 digs.
Strickland ranks in the top 10 in the Mid-South in six statistical categories. She leads the MSC with 10.3 assists a set and also 986 assists on the season. She ranks second in the Mid-South with 33 aces.
Strickland’s numbers are also among the best in the nation. Her 986 assists on the season is good enough for eighth in the nation and her 10.3 assists a set ranks 18th in the nation.
Jason McDannold, Head Coach of the Patriots took note of Strickland’s accomplishment saying, “It’s great for the program and great for her. I am very proud of Jordan.”
Strickland and the rest of the Patriot Volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday when they host archrival Georgetown College at 7 PM. Georgetown was ranked 19th in the nation in the latest poll.
