     The Patriot men’s golf team finished in fourth place out of 15 teams at the 2014 MSC St. Catharine Fall Invitational on Tuesday. The event was played at Maywood Golf Course located in Bardstown, Ky.

     Aaron Spalding (Springfield, Ky.) led the Patriots as he finished in a tie for 12th place. Spalding shot a 77 in round one and followed that up with a 78 in round two. He finished the tournament at 11 over at 155. Spalding finished eight shots behind the winner, who finished at 147.

     Senior Matt Bloom, (Louisville, Ky.) finished in a tie for 25th place. Bloom shot a 78 in the opening round and finished with an 81 in the final round. Bloom finished at 15 over at 159. He finished 12 strokes behind the winner.

     Will Broady (Greenville, Ky.) and Michael Hardin (Bardstown, Ky.) improved in round two. Broady shot an 81 in the first round; he improved by two strokes in the second round where he finished with a 79. Broady finished the tournament in 27th place with a two round total of 160. Hardin finished the opening round with an 82. Hardin like Broady, improved by two strokes in the final round. Hardin finished with a two day total of 162.

     Cole Ballard (Bardstown, Ky.) didn’t fare as well in the second round. Ballard finished the first round with a 79 and struggled in the final round where he shot an 85. He finished with a two round total of 164 where he finished in a tie for 33rd.

     The Patriots as a team finished the tournament in fourth place. They shot a 315 in the opening round and followed that up with a 318 in the final round. The Patriots did, however, defeat other Mid-South teams including: archrival Georgetown College, Pikeville, Campbellsville, Cumberland (Tenn.), and Shawnee State University.

     Mid-South Conference member, Lindsey Wilson won the tournament with a two round total of 610. They defeated fellow MSC member, Cumberlands (Ky.) by one stroke.

     The “Clubbing Patriots” will wrap their fall season up with a trip to Coosa Country Club located in Rome, Ga. where they will compete in the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational on October 20-21.
