PATRIOTS FALL TO THE TIGERS IN THREE SETS
The Patriot volleyball team (21-8, 7-3) has hit a rough patch in their schedule as they have lost three out of their last four. Unfortunately for the Patriots that trend continued when they lost to MSC foe Georgetown College (19-7, 8-1 MSC) 3-0 on Tuesday night.
In the first set the Patriots grabbed the early lead at 4-2. The lead, however, was short lived as the Tigers answered with an 8-2 run to take the lead 10-6. The Patriots would battle back to pull within one at 11-10, but the Tigers had yet another answer. This time it was 4-0 run forcing the Patriots to call a timeout. The Patriots were forced to take their final timeout when the Tigers stretched their lead out to 21-15. The Patriots would pull to within three at 22-19, but the Tigers would answer with a 3-0 run to win the opening set 25-19.
The second set saw the Patriots snag the early lead at 5-4. However, like the first set, the lead was short lived as the Tigers then went on a 9-3 run to take the lead at 13-8. The Patriots, however, didn’t quit as they cut the lead 16-14. The Tigers were just too much as they ended the second set on another 9-3 run to win the set 25-17. The Tigers would take a commanding two sets to none lead into the third set.
In the third set the two teams would battle to a tie at three apiece. The Tigers then embarked on an 8-1 to take the lead at 11-5. The Tigers would continue to build on their lead as they pushed it to 16-9. The Patriots would cut the lead to four at 19-15, but the Tigers’ offense was too tough as they won the third set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
Rebecca Just (Louisville, Ky.) led the Patriot hitters with 13 kills on the night. Just also recorded 10 digs to go along with her 13 kills. Shauna Stone (Bardstown, Ky.) also turned in a good night with nine kills and a .316 hitting percentage. Allie Southard (Louisville, Ky.) led the Patriots with a .444 hitting percentage.
