The Patriot women’s soccer team (4-9-1, 1-5 MSC) went into halftime down 5-0 and were never able to recover after that as they lost 7-0 to MSC foe Campbellsville University (9-6, 4-2 MSC).
The Tigers got on the scoreboard in the eighth minute when Mhairi Fyfe found Devon Burnside who put it in the back of the net to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Tigers would strike again in the 11th minute, this time it was Mhairi Fyfe who gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Fyfe would strike again four minutes later to give her team the lead 3-0. The Patriots had a chance to cut into the lead when Macy Higdon (Elizabethtown, Ky.) had a shot that was saved by the Tigers’ keeper. The Tigers would continue to pour it on the Patriots in the 23rd minute to take a 4-0 lead. The Tigers’ onslaught would continue when Devon Burnside struck again for her second goal of the game to go ahead 5-0.
Jerrica Kidd (Stanford, Ky.) played the first half in goal for the Patriots. At the half, she was replaced by Kelsey Givens (Richmond, Ky.), who played the entire second half. Macy Higdon broke free in the 51st minute, but her shot sailed high of the goal. The Tigers would go ahead 6-0 in the 62nd minute when Chelsea Gill scored off of a corner kick by Aris Kuntz. The Tigers would strike again when Alysen Shireman scored off of a rebound to give the Tigers the 7-0 win.
The Patriots had chances throughout the match as they tallied seven shots on goal, but were unable to crack the scoreboard. Macy Higdon returned from injury as she led the Patriots with three shots on goal. Amanda Schabell (Alexandria, Ky.) also pitched in with two shots for the Patriots.
The Patriots will return to the pitch when they host Oakland City University on Saturday, October 25 at 2 PM. The match will be the annual "Pink Game" to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Research.
